Couple getting married at the courthouse

Marriage licenses are issued the same day as requested as long as all requirements are met. However, there is a 3-day waiting period to be married for couples who live in Florida, but do not provide proof that they have completed a premarital preparation course. Florida couples wishing to avoid the 3-day waiting period must produce a certificate or printed letter from a premarital course provider indicating they have completed the course.

A couple claiming hardship can appear at the downtown courthouse location only and petition a judge to waive the 3-day waiting period when applying for the marriage license in person. To locate an approved course provider, search the internet for Florida Premarital Course Providers. A premarital course must be taken within one year prior to applying for a marriage license. There is no waiting period for non-Florida residents.

  • Please read the Family Law Handbook and sign a statement acknowledging that they have done so before applying for the license.
  • Both parties must produce a valid (non-expired) Government issued photo ID. Failure to produce ID means we will not be able to complete your marriage service.
  • Be aware that the maximum marriage ceremony room occupancy is:
    • 12 people at the Downtown Orlando Courthouse
    • 10 people at all other locations except Goldenrod branch
    • Goldenrod location performs marriage ceremonies at the front counter window.
  • There is a 3-day waiting period for Florida residents after a marriage license has been issued before they can be married. For details on how to waive this 3-day requirement, please visit our Marriage License Requirements section.

We currently do not accept same-day appointments, but Walk-Ins are always welcome!

    * Ceremonies at the Goldenrod location are performed at the Customer Counter. All other locations offer a private Ceremony Room.

You can choose Marriage License Application, Wedding Ceremony or both. Each event will take approximately 15 minutes (30 minutes for both).
