​Traffic Ticket Option 2: Enter Plea of Not Guilty (Request a Hearing)

When you elect to plead not guilty:
  • You must appear at the court listed on the front of your citation

    Or

  • You may send* a Not Guilty Plea requesting a court date; you will be scheduled for a future date to appear (no court dates will be set by telephone)

    Or

  • If you know you will be unable to appear for the scheduled court date in person, you may file* an Affidavit of Defense and post a civil bond in lieu of your appearance in court

    *Be sure to send filing to the address at the bottom of your citation.  

Bond Amounts if Filing Affidavit of Defense
If you are unable to appear for your scheduled court date, please send the appropriate bond amount based on the charge, along with the Affidavit of Defense.
  • If you were charged with a moving violation, the civil bond would be $100.00
  • If you received a non-moving violation, the civil bond would be $75.00

  • By mail: Personal check, money order, or cashier's check
  • In person: Cash, personal check, money order, cashier's check, MasterCard, Discover
    and American Express*
Please Note:
  • The Clerk's office charges a $3.99 fee for payments made with a credit card
  • We do not accept Visa for payments made in person*
  • Any document(s) received electronically by the Traffic Division after 5:00 pm Eastern Time will be time stamped the next business day
  • Make checks payable to the Orange County Clerk of Courts

Remember, we must receive your request for a court date within 30 calendar days to avoid additional late fees and possible suspension of your driving privileges.
 
Cancellation of Infraction Hearing
In order to cancel a hearing, you must submit a written request and pay a $15.00 cancellation fee along with the civil penalty at least 24 hours prior to the hearing if in person or 7 days prior if by mail. 
 
When submitting a written request, be sure to include a case or citation number.
