Traffic Ticket Option 3: Election to Attend Traffic School

Florida law allows you to elect this option once in a 12-month period, and no more than five times in your lifetime.

To check your status for electing traffic school please visit the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Enter your driver's license number, then click "Enter."

You may also visit the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles for additional information on traffic school classes.

If you qualify for and successfully complete traffic school:

  • Adjudication will be withheld on your driving record
  • Points will not be assessed
Step 1
To elect the school option you will need to notify the Clerk's Office and pay the appropriate fine(s). You may notify the Clerk's Office of your decision to attend traffic school by the following:
  • When paying citation online with myClerk
  • When paying by mail (you must select school option on citation)
  • When paying in person
Please refer to the fine chart to verify the penalty on your citation.

Step 2
Upon payment, your case will be updated for 90 calendar days. Within the 90 days, you will need to:
  • Contact a school of your choice
  • Complete the 4-hour course
  • Submit your completion certificate to the Clerk’s Office
Important: Traffic school completion certificates may be returned to the Clerk's Office:
Step 3
Verify that the Clerk's Office has received your traffic school completion certificate. To do this, download the Traffic School Certificate Confirmation instructions, then visit myClerk to view your case status.

Some schools electronically file their completions with the Clerk's Office. It is your responsibility to ensure the Clerk's Office has received your certificate.

Failure to complete traffic school and return the completion certificate within 90 calendar days of the date you made your election will result in suspension of your privileges, points being assessed and additional penalties and late fees.
